Lafayette Consolidated Government received $8 million in federal grant funding to improve safety along a stretch of Johnston Street.
The Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All grant will allow for upgrades to a 1.3-mile section of Johnston Street between Bertrand and Churchill Drive, LCG announced Tuesday.
Improvements include replacing unprotected bike lanes with separated shared-use paths and sidewalks, installing high-visibility crosswalks and improving pedestrian signage at intersections, and upgrading pavement markings to enhance nighttime visibility, increasing edge line width and adding raised medians and targeted access management at high-crash driveways and intersections…
