ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Some New Mexicans across the state got some fresh air today with a New Year’s Day nature walk.
Group celebrates New Year’s Day with plunge into Storrie Lake
Every year, New Mexico state parks host “first day hikes” to get people out and about, starting the new year with exercise and great views. Rangers and volunteers guided groups of hikers through some of New Mexico’s most iconic natural wonders, even within the Albuquerque metro.
“We’re very fortunate in Albuquerque to have the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park and the Bosque, and be able to enjoy nature, see what lives here, who we share this Earth with,” said John Maddaus, a member of Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center.
The “first day hike” tradition has been held at state parks across the country since the 1990s…
