North Carolina brewing company announces temporary closure amid statutory rape allegations against former co-owner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — After a month of community backlash following the arrest of Sycamore Brewing’s former co-owner, the company announced it will be closing its doors indefinitely in the new year.

In a letter posted to the company’s website, co-founder Sarah Taylor says the taproom will close starting January 5 “to allow space for processing, healing and beginning the work of reimagining this community space.”

This comes after former co-owner and Taylor’s husband, Justin Tawse Brigham, was arrested and charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. Since the news, the company has not only faced ridicule from the community, but retailers across the Carolinas that carry their products have pulled them from the shelves…
