High of 60 after near-freezing morning temps on Friday in the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Layer up! Temperatures are expected to swing dramatically through the day.  Skies are clear this morning and it’s near freezing, but as clouds increase through the day, so will those temperatures. We are going to have highs near 60 degrees this afternoon, despite mostly cloudy skies.

Overnight, a cold front will sag southward through the Piedmont, ushering in a chilly, northeast breeze. Skies are expected to remain cloudy with lows hovering around 40 degrees at daybreak.  Showers hold off until between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and scattered showers are expected for most of Saturday. Highs will be in the mid-40s and the chance of rain is 60%.

Sunday shows great improvement as high pressure begins to build up across the southeastern U.S.  We will enjoy sunny skies and highs near 50 degrees as the weekend wraps up.

While partly cloudy skies and highs around 50 degrees (on Monday) are a great way to start an early January work week, the weather gets better and better starting Tuesday. An approaching low-pressure system, west of the Mississippi, will push warm air into the Piedmont midweek.  Highs are going to warm back to 60 degrees on Tuesday, then hover in the mid-60s on Wednesday and Thursday!…
