Knoxville Habitat for Humanity builds on success with new neighborhood

Right now, yellow excavators and other heavy pieces of machinery are preparing land just off Asheville Highway in Strawberry Plains. Eventually, The Plains will be home to 74 families.

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity has broken ground on its newest subdivision and has selected the first 10 families who will contribute to building not only their homes, but a thriving community.

“One thing that I know for certain is that our community is healthier when everyone has an opportunity to participate in the economy,” Habitat CEO Anna Engelstad told Knox News. “We’re providing opportunities for a segment of the population that I don’t want left out of our local economy.”…
