New FBI records offer fresh insight into a 2023 Nashville tragedy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The FBI has released more than 200 pages of documents connected to the 2023 Covenant School shooting in Nashville. The records, made public this week after legal action, include writings, notes and other materials from the shooter that provide new details about the attack and the person who carried it out.

The shooting happened on March 27, 2023, when a 28‑year‑old former student entered The Covenant School. Inside the school, the gunman fatally shot three children and three adults before police officers responded and killed the shooter.

Among the newly released pages are handwritten writings and journal entries from the shooter, identified as Audrey Elizabeth Hale. These writings stretch back several years and show the planning and thoughts leading up to the attack.
