Teenager Arrested for Carjacking Uber Driver at Gunpoint in Valley Center

In a recent incident highlighting the risks faced by ride-share drivers, an Uber driver was carjacked at gunpoint in Valley Center, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. On Monday, the driver, responding to a ride request on the Uber app, was confronted by a male suspect who brandished a handgun and commandeered the vehicle.

The suspect, who later emerged to be a 16-year-old male, forced the driver out of his car near the 16900 block of Eagle Way before fleeing. The vehicle was found abandoned the following day in the 16800 block of Kuttap Way, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Officers from the San Pasqual Police Department assisted in the operation, leading to the discovery of the car and the detainment of a suspect who matched the description given by the victim.

The teenager was detained outside a nearby residence, and the driver positively identified him as the assailant. A search of the residence unearthed an unserialized 9mm handgun, dubbed a ‘ghost gun’ due to its lack of traceable serial numbers.
