SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Gun violence is a pressing issue across the nation and here in Savannah.
On Welcome to Our Community, Karen Williams of the Show Us Your Guns program and Tyree Lee of the New Beginnings program joined the conversation to explain how the initiative offers eligible young people an alternative to incarceration and a path to a different life.
What the program is
“The Show Us Your Guns program is a partnership and an initiative with the District Attorney’s Office,” Karen Williams said. The program is open to eligible youth between the ages of 16 and 25 who choose to opt in.
Participants must fully commit to the program, surrender any weapons, and complete the required time—typically one year—through the District Attorney’s Office. “The ultimate goal is to get their charge expunged,” Williams says, giving participants “another glimpse of a second chance.”…
