Conversations ongoing as police officers move out of West Toledo substation

As Toledo police officers move out of the D. Michael Collins Northwest Neighborhood Station, some neighbors are hoping Toledo City Council follows through on promises for an increased police presence in the area.

“Even walking through the streets, I have found over the years that I really can’t go out on Berdan [Avenue] when it’s dark or Sylvania [Avenue] because I’m afraid of being a target,” Albert Specht said. “I kind of walk through the middle part of the neighborhood … with a police presence, at least they would be close.”

Mr. Specht and his wife have lived in their home on Charlestown Avenue for about 30 years. While the Toledo Police Department’s northwest substation, located at 2300 W. Sylvania Ave., has not been there the entire time the couple has lived there, they were upset to hear that the officers would be moving out…
