SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Fire Department (SFD) has confirmed to OzarksFirst that during a response to a massive apartment fire, firefighters discovered a fire hydrant just several hundred feet from the impacted building, which did not work.
Eric Latimer with SFD told OzarksFirst over the phone that firefighters notified Springfield City Utilities crews, who were also on scene, who were originally there to shut down gas and electric to the apartments.
City Utilities (CU) told OzarksFirst, “The fire hydrant that malfunctioned this morning appeared to be damaged prior to the incident, possibly by a vehicle. The hydrant’s bolts were completely broken away from the base and appeared to have been stood back up. The damage was not reported to CU.”…
