Manning racks up nearly 400 yards, leads Longhorns to 41-27 win in Citrus Bowl

AUSTIN (KXAN) — So much for being a meaningless bowl game.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning put his body on the line on multiple occasions, totaling 376 yards of offense and four touchdowns to lead the Longhorns to a 41-27 win Wednesday over Michigan in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

The victory marks the third consecutive season Texas has achieved 10 wins, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 2007-2009. Manning threw for 221 yards with a pair of scores, adding 155 rushing yards and a 60-yard touchdown run for the fourth-quarter dagger. He scrambled for a 23-yard score midway through the third quarter. He was named the game’s MVP, and it’s the most rushing yards in a game for a Longhorns quarterback since 2009.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said he spoke with the team after the emotional victory, and he said much of the discussion centered on “the life of a competitor.”…
