New trash law forces homeowners to sort through their waste and use third ‘organic’ bin – & you have to pay for pickup

HOMEOWNERS are being told to sort their trash under a sweeping new law that will push households into using a third “organic” bin, and paying for the extra pickup.

The rules are designed to stop food scraps and yard debris being dumped with regular garbage.

Washington will start rolling out the organics requirements in phases, with yard waste targeted first.

State lawmakers approved the changes through HB 1799 (passed in 2022) and HB 2301 (passed in 2024)…
