911 calls reveal moments before 2 Mint Hill officers shot, father killed during custody exchange

MINT HILL, N.C. — Newly released 911 calls reveal the moments leading up to a deadly shooting at a Mint Hill Edible Arrangements store that left two officers wounded and a man dead.

The recordings, obtained by WCNC Charlotte, show a family member calling police on Friday, Dec. 26, for what she described as a child custody dispute that escalated when officers arrived.

In the first call, a woman identifying herself as the owner of Edible Arrangements and the grandmother of the child, told dispatchers her son, later identified as Tjmael Ali Hamlin II, was “giving us a hard time” about her grandson going on vacation…
