UPDATE: At least 17 people forced out after fire in Dayton

Firefighters spent five hours on the scene of a house fire in Dayton early Friday morning.

The fire was reported in the 400 block of Westwood Avenue at midnight, a Montgomery County dispatch supervisor confirmed.

When the first responding crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy fire conditions throughout the second floor and attic, according to Assistant Dayton Fire Chief Brad French.

“Crews initially attempted to conduct operations inside the structure for fire attack and search, but were ordered out to a defensive position by the Incident Commander due to the extent of the fire conditions and the risk of imminent structural collapse,” French said…
