GBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting of Dacula Man in Gwinnett County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently probing an officer-involved shooting in Gwinnett County which resulted in the death of 39-year-old Dacula resident Brent Elvin Ivy. As per the details confirmed by the GBI, no law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the encounter.

The incident unfolded late Tuesday night when the Gwinnett County Police Department officers discovered a vehicle connected with a “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert from the Roswell Police Department. Reports from the GBI state that upon spotting the vehicle at a Peachtree Corners business, an attempt to contain the car by an officer was met with resistance as Ivy rammed into the cruiser, rendering it inoperable, and then fled the scene.

A chase ensued after Ivy’s vehicle crashed in the 7000 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. In a fatal turn of events, Ivy, having exited the wrecked vehicle, allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it toward the officers as he ran, prompting two officers to discharge their firearms, striking Ivy.
