Rabid raccoon in Staunton, Va., sparks rabies alert reminder

STAUNTON, Va. (WFXR) – The Central Shenandoah Health District (CSHD) collected a raccoon from a residential area that tested positive for rabies.

CSHD wants to remind the community to keep their pets vaccinated for rabies.

Rabies is linked to a virus that attacks the nervous system and can be deadly to humans and animals if not property treated. CSHD says, “If you are bitten by a wild or stray animal, wash the wound(s) thoroughly with warm soapy water and contact animal control or your healthcare provider.”…
