Roseville man loses more than $1M in online dating scam, police say

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — A Roseville resident reported losing more than $1 million after an online dating scam that unfolded over several months.

Police said the victim used a dating website in March 2025 and then started talking to her over iMessage. The relationship became serious, and the victim started sending her money.

Eventually, the suspect claimed a family member died and left her about 455 kilograms of gold. According to police, she told the victim that she needed more than $1 million to get the gold out of storage and asked him to help with the fees, saying she would owe taxes in Thailand and the U.S…
