SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — In the days and weeks following Callen Lines’ death at Las Colinas Women’s Detention Center, her father, Dano McCarthy, and his family searched for answers.

Mr. McCarthy knew his daughter was in the throes of addiction at the time of her May 11, 2025, arrest. Still, they had unending questions about how, after just 36 hours in the San Diego Women’s jail, Ms. Lines was found dead in her cell.
