Southern New Englanders ring in 2026 with a blanket of snow

While most were falling sleep after celebrating the start of 2026, snow pushed into the region rather quickly. Those who were out late well after the midnight countdown did not fair so well, as snow covered roadways and led to areas of slick travel. After a early/mid morning hiatus, the snowfall returned in the form of snow squalls as an arctic front swept through the region.

The snow is now beginning to taper far east, but areas of slick travel remain as the cleanup efforts are ongoing. Be sure to give plenty of space to crews whom have been working hard to keep our roadways clear. What was initially a coating-2″ of snow overnight, was increased by a widespread 1-2″ as the squalls pressed through the region. Storm total accumulations between 1-3″ have been reported, with locally higher amounts near 4″ for some.

Temperatures will continue to slide this afternoon through the twenties and eventually the teens heading for tonight. Blustery winds this afternoon gusting 30-40 MPH will make it already feel like the teens despite the brighter skies, and wind chills tonight will head into the single digits…
