ANKENY, IA — The Ankeny Police Department is urging residents to come forward if they believe they may have fallen victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam tied to an arrest in Missouri. Investigators believe additional victims may be located in Ankeny and across the Des Moines metro area.
According to police, Ankeny authorities were recently contacted by the Columbia Police Department regarding a fraud investigation that led to the arrest of Charles Spencer Burri. Missouri officials allege Burri solicited money from individuals under the guise of cryptocurrency investments, then ceased communication after receiving funds — resulting in significant financial losses.
