Forest Fire Contained in Rankin County; No Structures Damaged

RANKIN COUNTY — Multiple agencies responded Wednesday afternoon to an uncontrolled forest fire in Rankin County that burned an estimated 60 acres but did not damage any structures, authorities said.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Rankin County Emergency Operations Command, several Rankin County volunteer fire departments, and the Mississippi Forestry Commission, responded around 2 p.m. to the 1400 block of Clara Foote Road.

When first responders arrived, the fire had burned less than 20 acres and was moving toward a nearby deer camp that included a camper and an ATV storage area. Fire crews deployed multiple apparatus to the scene and were able to neutralize the immediate threat to the hunting camp.

By approximately 5:30 p.m., officials said the fire was not fully under control but had been contained. Equipment from the Mississippi Forestry Commission was used to cut several fire lanes ahead of the blaze to prevent further spread…
