New sidewalk project planned to connect downtown Columbia to the fairgrounds

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) -Walking from downtown Columbia to the South Carolina State Fairgrounds and Williams-Brice Stadium could soon be easier thanks to a new sidewalk connector project.

Currently, there is no continuous sidewalk linking downtown to the stadium area. City officials said the plan constructs 10-foot-wide sidewalks along Assembly Street, stretching to the fairgrounds and the stadium.

“We’re making it a lot easier for people to traverse from downtown all the way out,” Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann said. “It’s going to connect Rosewood and Assembly along with George Rogers Boulevard.”…
