Decatur gym owner says community, not ‘broken’ resolutions, fuels business

DECATUR, Ala. — For many, Jan. 1 marks the start of a new fitness journey, a tradition as old as the resolutions themselves. But while local gyms are currently seeing an influx of new faces, data suggests the momentum may be short-lived.

National trends indicate that by the second Friday in January, known to some as “Quitter’s Day,” most people will have already abandoned their New Year’s goals. At the Decatur Athletic Club, owner Jeremy Early says his regular members are already watching the clock.

“We do get an influx at the first of the year for people who want their New Year’s resolutions or people who just want to get healthy,” Early said. “Our current members are always wondering how long these people are going to stand here and stick with it.”…
