Rochester City Council reverses decision on 25% pay increase

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — On December 15, the Rochester City Council voted to increase its salary to $50,000, a 25% increase. Today, January 2, they’ve voted to reverse this decision due to public concern.

In the December vote, a 5-4 vote ruled to increase their pay. The original proposed salary increase was 3%, but it was changed to a flat increase from the proposed $41,413 to $50,000.

This time, they’ve unanimously voted to rescind their earlier decision.

Vice President LaShay D. Harris called for the vote on Friday after seeing public concern about the Council’s decision in December. Although she had previously voted with the rest of the council, Harris initially opposed the increase but then made the argument that it’s “full-time work for part-time pay.” However, all nine members have now ultimately voted to rescind the salary increase…
