Local fire departments and law enforcement donate 1,500 books to hospitalized children

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Fire departments and law enforcement agencies in Wilmington and New Hanover County donated more than 1,500 books to children at Betty Cameron Women and Children’s Hospital on Friday.

The New Hanover County Professional Firefighters Association, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the Wilmington Fire Department, New Hanover County Fire and Rescue and Wilmington Professional Firefighters Association collected books throughout December for the hospital’s pediatric unit.

“A lot of these kids are in school and missing school or can be bedbound or bound to their rooms for a number of reasons due to how critical their illness is, have an opportunity to have something like a book or two for families and children to have some sort of normalcy and enjoyment while being in the hospital,” said Morgan Freenan, a registered nurse with Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center…
