Verizon to pay $7.7M for improperly stored petroleum, lead-acid batteries in Southern California

Verizon Wireless will pay $7.7 million after a settlement was reached involving “environmental violations at hundreds of the company’s wireless telecommunication cell towers across Southern California,” the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office said.

The SBDA was joined in the legal action by district attorneys of Orange, Ventura, Los Angeles, Imperial, Riverside and San Diego counties, as well as the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

Officials alleged that beginning in 2019, hazardous materials like lead-acid batteries and petroleum products were stored at “numerous Verizon cell towers” to power emergency and backup systems…
