Family searches for answers after hit-and-run as LPR debate stalls in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Investigators are still working to identify the car police say drove onto a sidewalk in front of a bar on New Year’s Eve, killing a 23-year-old woman and leaving her friend fighting for their life.

For years, Metro Police have asked for authorization to deploy license plate readers in Nashville, a technology Police Chief John Drake says could help solve crimes, especially hit-and-run crashes.

In this case, police say 23-year-old Afriye Seegars was killed while getting into an Uber. Her father, Will Seegars, has been at the crash site since her death, searching for answers.
