CORALVILLE, I.A. (SDSU) – Daniel Guanajuato, Jacob Herm, Jarrett Wadsen and Burk Blasius all secured their spot on the Soldier Salute podium with standout performances on Day One of the annual tournament.
Guanajuato started his day with a decision win over Isaiah Harrison of Wyoming in his opening round matchup before unleashing two tech falls over Waylon Rogers and Joe Calvin to advance to the semi-finals of the 125-pound bracket. He will face No. 13 and 1-seed Kysen Terukina tomorrow with a trip to the finals on the line. Terukina was a three-time National Qualifer during his time at Iowa State before transferring to UNC this summer.
Impressive true freshman Jacob Herm made his impact felt at 165 pounds. Herm scored a fall in his opening round match against Iowa’s Joey Kennedy and followed it up by majoring Mizzou’s Joel Mylin in the Championship Round of 16. He secured his spot in the semis by scoring a 7-3 decision over Iowa State’s Manny Rojas in the quarterfinals. He will face the 1-seed, No. 17 Bryce Hepner, tomorrow in the semis. A redshirt junior transfer from Ohio State, Hepner sports a 5-1 record on the year, including a win over top-15 opponent Ryder Downey…
