Troy women top Louisiana on New Years

The Troy Trojans (11-2, 2-0) women’s team opened up the New Year with a resounding 80-54 win over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (1-12, 0-3) on Jan. 1 to remain undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play.

Troy never trailed in the contest and dominated from start to finish. Troy shot 37 percent from the field but held Louisiana to just 28.8 percent shooting. The Trojans also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Louisiana 60-37 and outscoring the Cajuns 23-4 in second chance points and 36-22 in the paint. The Trojans also forced 16 turnovers and scored 15 points off turnovers, while Louisiana managed just eight points off turnovers.

“Here we are in the ‘Cajundome’ in Louisiana, I’m very grateful to be walking away with a win. These road conference wins are hard to come by, but we got the job done,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “The most important thing was coming off 10 days off.
