Akron Mayor’s Office addresses questions about discolored water

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — The Akron Mayor’s Office is addressing reports of brown water on the city‘s west side Sunday morning.

In a morning Facebook post, the city said a water main break at S. Valley St. and W. Market St. is causing discoloration in the water.

According to the city, a boil advisory is not being issued because teams were able to isolate the main and did not have to depressurize.

“Discoloration is caused by iron particles that get scoured off the water main pipe when flow is reversed or accelerated trying to feed the break site. The water is still fully treated so while the discoloration is unpleasant, it is still potable meaning it is safe,” the post said…
