GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thursday marks what would have been the 100th birthday of legendary entertainer Soupy Sales.
The Prince of Pies was a staple on American televisions for the better part of three decades, but he may not have made it to Hollywood without his work in Michigan.
Neither Soupy nor Sales was his given name. The comedian was born Milton Supman on Jan. 8, 1926, in Franklinton, North Carolina. Soupy was, however, a play on his name. The nickname came from the common mispronunciation of his last name as “Soupman.”…
