Third arrest made in New Year’s Day Waffle House shooting

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) — A third man has been arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Waffle House on New Year’s Day.

Amondjai Jytez Mallette, 18, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 2, by the Wilmington Police Department. Jacquae Taijhon Roland, 18, and Jaquan Miller, 19, were previously arrested on New Year’s Day and appeared in court on Friday.

Mallette faces the same charges as Roland and Miller, according to arrest warrants. The charges include:

  • Felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury
  • Felony discharging a weapon into occupied property, felony discharging a firearm to incite fear
  • Three felony counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle
  • Misdemeanor discharging a firearm within city limits.

The assistant district attorney previously confirmed that two defendants were parked in a black Honda in the Waffle House parking lot on Carolina Beach Road when another car pulled up, and its occupants opened fire. Court records for Mallette, Roland, and Miller state they were in a black Honda sedan when they allegedly discharged a firearm.

Arrest warrants for each of the men claim they shot into a blue Hyundai sedan and a silver Infiniti sedan outside the restaurant while those cars were occupied…
