Drivers React to ARDOT’s new work zone cameras that detect phone use

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. – Today, the Arkansas Department of Transportation announced that later this month, cameras will be installed to detect if drivers use their cellphones or handheld devices in work zones.

It comes at a time when wrecks in work zones across the state have shown a steady decline, but the number is still high.

From 2021-2024, across Arkansas, there’s been a decline in the number of crashes in work zones. The number, though, is still over 1,500, and those injured or killed are still in the 50s…
