An Acadiana family is raising money to help a 10-year-old boy who was paralyzed after being hit by gunfire in a drive-by shooting in July.
Joel Moscovis was critically injured when a passing vehicle fired shots into the Opelousas home where he was sleeping July 12, according to police reports. The bullet shattered his jaw and caused a severe spinal cord injury , leaving him paralyzed from the neck down, according to his family.
As a result of his injuries, Joel is depending on a tracheostomy tube and a ventilator to breathe. Since the shooting, he has undergone multiple surgeries, including the placement of a feeding tube and a tracheostomy, and faces a long recovery, according to his family…
