BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham recorded its lowest number of homicides in over 10 years during 2025, with city leaders celebrating both the reduction in cases and a dramatic improvement in solving them.
The city saw 86 homicides in 2025, down from 152 in 2024. Police solved 87% of the 2025 homicides, according to Mayor Randall Woodfin. That clearance rate represents a significant increase from around 30% just a few years ago.
