BEXAR COUNTY, TX - A call about a vehicle fire in Adkins led Bexar County deputies to uncover a disturbing case of animal cruelty and suspected cockfighting on New Year’s Day.
On January 1, 2026, deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Kayroe Drive after reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. While securing the scene, a deputy noticed a severely malnourished tan dog chained to a fence on the property.
Deputies made contact with Aundra Mathis, who was uncooperative and initially denied any involvement with the animals.
