New Orleans homeless shelter changes lives with help from credit union, Saints: ‘Hope lives here’

In the Keesler Federal Credit Union suite at the Superdome, sparkly black and gold revelry paraded through the door. Dawn Bradley-Fletcher, CEO of the New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter, led her crew into the suite for the Nov. 23 Saints vs. Falcons game, complete with pompoms, sequins and lots of laughter.

Keesler chose the New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter as the beneficiary of the 2025 Kicks for Kids campaign. Last year was the Covenant House, for which they raised $27,000.

“We want to help the community get stronger,” said Michele Rabalais, the director of corporate sponsorships at Keesler. “The Saints came up with Kicks for Kids for our community giveback. The New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter was a perfect fit for us.”

A safe place for families

Bradley-Fletcher has been with the shelter since 2008, shortly after it opened, when Jackie and Dan Silverman, the founders of New Orleans Women’s and Children’s Shelter, interviewed her to be their first employee.

Bradley-Fletcher has been there since, through several moves and expansions of the shelter.
