Two Killed Fleeing Law Enforcement This Past Holiday Period

The New Years holiday travel period expired at midnight last night. The preliminary highway patrol report for New Years evening to 11:59 Sunday night won’t be out until later today. However, from the highway patrol website, there were at least 5 fatalities on the Missouri roads during that period.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a person fleeing police was struck and killed Thursday night on interstate 70 in Independence. Investigators report that the person abandoned a vehicle during a pursuit by Independence police, then ran across eastbound lanes. The person entered westbound lanes, where he was hit by a vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.

A 21-year-old man from Allen, Texas, died as he was fleeing law enforcement during the early morning hours on Friday. The highway patrol says his 2017 Hyundai Sonata ran off the interstate at westbound marker 176 in Phelps County, struck a cable barrier, went airborne, and struck a bridge support pillar. this was Troop I of the patrol’s first fatality of the new year…
