Tulsa Zoo announces hatching of 2 African penguin chicks

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Zoo announced two African penguin chicks have recently hatched!

The parents of both chicks are Squiggy and Gladyce. According to the zoo, the couple is an AZA Species Survival Plan recommended pair with the rarest genetics in the zoo’s penguin colony.

The first chick hatched on Dec. 21 and is being raised by Squiggy and Gladyce, who are first time parents.

The second chick hatched on Dec. 23 and is being raised by penguins Lyle and River. The zoo reported that while Lyle is an experienced dad, this will be River’s first time raising a chick!…
