Albuquerque Rang in the New Year With Its First Murder-and an Arrest Hours Later

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – An 18-year-old remains in jail without bond after being arrested in connection with the city’s first homicide of 2026.

Police say Peyton Reagan was taken into custody around 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day near Gold Avenue and 8th Street. Officers reported hearing gunfire and saw Reagan running from the area carrying a weapon. He was arrested without incident.
