RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — District Attorney Ted Bell, who serves the counties of Rutherford and McDowell, is facing a hearing later this month on whether or not he could be removed from office.
If Bell is removed, he will be the first district attorney to be removed in the Western part of North Carolina since Greg Newman in 2021. On Dec. 30, Superior Court Judge William T. Stetzer scheduled the hearing for Jan. 26 in Rutherford County Superior Court.
According to past WLOS reporting, a petition was filed in December 2025 by a former Word of Faith Fellowship Church member, Matthew Fenner. Fenner claimed he was the victim of an assault by several leaders of the church in 2013…
