Diocese of Green Bay advances sainthood process for Adele Brice

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) — Bishop David Ricken announced a new step in the Catholic Church’s process toward sainthood for Adele Brice, a Wisconsin pioneer who reported Marian apparitions in 1859.

Ricken, the 12th bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, issued an edict inviting anyone with information about Brice to share it with the diocese. Church officials said the request is a standard and important part of the investigation process when studying the life of a potential saint.

In June 2024, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops unanimously supported advancing Brice’s cause. This fall, the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Causes of Saints gave formal approval for the Diocese of Green Bay to begin a local investigation into Brice’s life, faith and actions.

“As more people have come to recognize Adele Brice’s deep faith and holiness, the Church now invites the public to help us learn more about her life,” Ricken said. “We ask anyone who has information to come forward so that I can fully and fairly understand her story and discern next steps in the process.”…
