Springfield man charged in gas station stabbing

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man has been charged after being accused of stabbing an individual at a Springfield gas station on Friday, Jan. 2.

According to online court dockets, James Laredo Dunkins, born 1965, of Springfield, has been charged with first-degree assault – serious physical injury and armed criminal action.

The probable cause statement says that Dunkins and the victim were arguing over cigarettes near an ice chest at the Fast ‘N Friendly on the corner of Chestnut and Main Street around 5 p.m. before the incident.

Dunkins allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim twice in the stomach and once in the neck after the two pushed each other on the scene.

The statement indicates that Dunkins pushed the victim backward against a green Ford pickup, where a witness was occupying it at the time. The victim and Dunkins fell to the ground and began to wrestle over the knife, where it is reported that Dunkins continued to stab the victim…
