ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Sandia High School student is reaching for the stars with his research. Senior Ben Williamson is studying how to grow food in outer space, specifically figuring out how New Mexico chile fares in lunar soil versus Earth soil. Williamson even presented his cutting-edge research at the American Society for Gravitational and Space Research’s annual conference last year.

His teacher said students this driven don’t come around often. Williamson plans to study nuclear energy in college. “As we look into the future, nuclear energy is going to be super important, so I want to be at the forefront of that, be at the forefront of the future,” said Williamson.
