Rising emergency calls strain Woodburn Fire District as officials weigh future funding

WOODBURN, Ore. (KATU) — The Woodburn Fire District is facing growing pressure on its emergency response system as call volumes have surged dramatically over the past decade.

District officials say overall emergency calls have increased by roughly 80% since 2015, driven in part by rapid population growth in the area.

“The population growth, you know, is the third fastest in the state of Oregon right now,” said Woodburn Fire Chief Jim Walker. “So we’re seeing a big, big increase in our responses.”…
