‘Listen to Venezuelans,’ West Michigan group says

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A group of Venezuelans in West Michigan has a message for people in the U.S.: Listen to Venezuelans.

About 40 Venezuelans from different professional backgrounds locally got together and wrote a letter detailing what they call a deeply painful human experience. Their goal is to give Michiganders some perspective as developments unfold with captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in the coming days.

Belkis Lizarazo is the chef, owner and cultural ambassador at Belkis Bistro. While she’s proud of her heritage, she moved to the U.S because of concerns in her home country.
