Task force says it arrested 50, found missing child Monday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Safe Task Force made 50 arrests Monday and recovered an endangered, missing autistic child, federal officials said.

The U.S. Marshals said in a news release that a 12-year-old autistic child was found by task force members in the 1900 block of Asa Drive. The child was returned safely to a grandmother’s house.

They highlighted two of the 50 arrests in a news release Tuesday.

  • Marquice Deshun Lester, 31, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and misdemeanor evading arrest. Marshals said he was arrested after a controlled delivery of 36 pounds of marijuana to a house on Sixth Street in Uptown.
  • Daryl E. Ray Jr., 23, was arrested for aggravated assault and strangulation at a hotel in the 6100 block of Shelby Oaks Drive.

Records and mugshots for both suspects were found in the Shelby County jail’s log, though affidavits from law enforcement in the cases were not available.
