The beloved Naples Pier crossed into a new phase of its long history on Monday (Jan. 5). A ground-breaking ceremony was held to mark the rebuild of the iconic structure that was damaged by Hurricane Ian in September 2022.
For more than 100 years, the pier has been a place for family gatherings, catching fish, watching firewords and capturing spectacular photos of sunsets in the Gulf. The memories residents and visitors have made on and around the pier are countless.

- It was originally built in 1888 as a freight and passenger dock.
- It predated the opening of the Tamiami Trail by about 40 years.
- It was rebuilt after hurricanes in 1910, 1926, 1944 and 1960.
- It was reconstructed in 2015 to address wear and tear.
- It was damaged again in 2017 by Hurricane Irma, requiring repairs.
