PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) -According to a Facebook post, on Dec. 29, Parkersburg police arrested three men from Toledo, Ohio, after what officers say was a coordinated scheme to steal activated Visa gift cards from local stores.
Police say the men entered the Dollar General at 835 7th Street around 8:16 p.m. and tried to get a cashier to activate multiple Visa gift cards using the store’s “cash” payment option, even though the men appeared to have only debit cards. After being turned away by one cashier, they moved to another, who accidentally activated three cards each loaded with roughly $400–$450. The suspects fled with the activated cards before the cashier could cancel them.
Officers spotted a vehicle matching the suspects’ description at 29th Street and Dudley Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The three men — Antoine Winston Jr., 21; Devon Helm, 21; and Jayden Neal, 21 — were identified as the suspects and found with Visa cards that matched those taken from the 7th Street store.
