City of Spokane named in lawsuit over COVID-era eviction moratorium

SPOKANE, Wash — Property owners across Washington are suing the City of Spokane, several other Washington cities and the governor for the COVID-era eviction moratorium that they allege stripped them of property rights and resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses.

Court documents that KREM 2 obtained from Thurston County Superior Court show that 11 property owners, all of whom are members of the Rental Housing Association (RHA), are involved in the lawsuit.

In 2020, Washington state enacted an eviction moratorium that put a stop to most evictions as millions of people across the country lost their jobs or were temporarily laid off at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic…
